I went panning today again on Cajon Creek. Lots of water has moved through the stream! I did not use my sluice, gold sucker or my super sucker today. Just used my grizzly gold pan, a couple of classifiers and my old blue proline pan, and a snuffer bottle.
The area I got the material from was underwater when the water was up. And it lies behind and to the side of a very large boulder. When the creek was up the water washed away a lot of the lighter material and left layers of black sand.
So I carefully scraped up the material, following the black sand layer. I only processed about 12 gallons of material, but got a fair amount of gold. And it was super easy to collect!
What I did was first screen off the large rocks with a 1/2 inch classifier. When my proline gold pan was full, I would run the material through my grizzly gold pan. After 4 full proline pans, I would clean out the grizzly gold pan.
I put the material back in my proline pan and panned out any remaining blond sand. Then I would remove as much black sand as possible with my large magnet. I saved this black sand in a bucket. Then I would clean out the visible gold from the remaining black sand with my snuffer bottle. After doing this, I would pour the remaining black sand in another bucket. There is still very small gold in the black sand, but I will work it out at home.
I sampled the othere side of the creek where I could see layers of black sand. But one full proline pan run through the grizzly only showed one small color. The side was working had a lot more gold.
I will be back!
